Stanley Road Playing Fields...

We are very concerned about Council plans to demolish
the Herbert Wilmot Youth Centre and develop the
adjacent Stanley Road playing fields in East Finchley.

We, the local development trust and other local
organisations, believe this space should continue to be
available for sports and the local community. We have
developed a scheme in conjunction with the Football
Foundation which would achieve this. We have consulted
the local community and over 97% of residents
neighbouring the site support the proposal to retain the
site for community use and sports facilities.

Funding on youth and sport provision by Barnet Council
is scandalously low. Here is an opportunity for Barnet
Council, which owns the site, to show that it wants to
work with local people to provide much needed facilities.

On Monday 10th October local people joined at the
Herbert Wilmot Centre to protest against Barnet
Council’s decision to demolish it.

The Development Trust has already obtained provisional
support from the Football Foundation to fund the
development of the site.

We have written to Barnet Council and asked them to
meet with us to discuss our proposals. The ball is now in
their court!

We will soon be posting feasibility studies and design
proposals which show how the Stanley Road site can be
developed - so please watch this space...
